Meatloaf recipes can vary a lot. Some call for a lot of different ingredients and prep when others keep it simple. This is one of the simple ones. You can have this dinner thrown together before the oven’s even preheated and everything will be ready in about an hour and a half.
It’s great if you want to change things up from having chicken or pork for dinner. Everybody needs a little variety, right?
Let’s take a look at what you’ll need for this meatloaf recipe.

Step 1 of the Meatloaf Recipe
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (180c). Some recipes tend to skip over the part about preheating your oven, but it’s so fast to put all this stuff together that you should just go ahead with doing that at the beginning.
Step 2
For step 2, start by grabbing your onion.
Chop up enough to fill up 1/4 cup.
Dump the onion into the large mixing bowl.
Following that, grab your Italian sausage for the meatloaf recipe.
I happened to have two actual Italian sausages on-hand (where most people would buy it ground up for this). So, we took the casing off each one and they held together for the picture here.
Throw the sausage into the mixing bowl and mix it around with the onion already in there.
Grab A Measuring Spoon and Some Salt
Measure out 1 teaspoon of salt and throw that in. There’s already some salt in the Italian sausage (I think) so that’s why this will be plenty.
Then, measure out 1 teaspoon of pepper and dump that in, too, for this part of the meatloaf recipe.
Egg time. Get 1 egg.
Take the egg and crack it into the mixing bowl.
Next, get your tomato juice.
Measure out 1 cup of that and then pour it into the mixing bowl.
Next, get your oats. I know, I know, it seems weird putting oats and meat together but just go with it. I swear it’ll be pretty good.
Measure out 3/4 cup of those and pour them into the bowl.
After doing that, get the most important ingredient: your ground beef! Arguably, the sausage is just as important, but anyways, get out one pound of ground beef.
Mix that in with everything else in the bowl for this part of the meatloaf recipe.
Start filling up your ungreased loaf pan. In my case it’s technically a dish, but either way, start putting the mixture in there.
Get it all in there for this last part of the meatloaf recipe.
Bake at 350 degrees F for one hour and fifteen minutes. I know it kind of takes a while, but still,
Once it’s done, you should have something that looks like this:
Trust me when I say you won’t need ketchup or any kind of sauce with it.

kcalIngredients
1/2 pound of Italian sausage
1 pound of 85% lean ground beef
1 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp of pepper
1 egg
1 cup of tomato juice
3/4 cup oats (dry)
1/4 cup onion
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 F. Then, combine 1/4 cup of chopped onion, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1 tsp salt, 1 egg, and 3/4 cup dry oats into a medium mixing bowl.
- Mix 1/2 pound of Italian sausage and 1 pound of 85% lean ground beef into the bowl with the other ingredients. Then, add 1 cup of tomato juice into the bowl, too.
- Fill an ungreased loaf pan with the meat mixture and place in the oven for 75 minutes (hour and fifteen).
- Once the time's up, use a meat thermometer to double check that it's at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit (it should be way hotter). Then, let it cool for a few minutes and dig in! You probably won't need anything like Ketchup, it's really flavorful on its own.
