Let’s get this Rice Krispie Treat recipe started. The first thing you want to do is get your butter out. I let mine sit on the counter for about 15 minutes before actually cutting into it. It doesn’t matter too much since you’ll be melting it in a pan.
Grab a butter knife, too.
Cut 3 tablespoons of butter from the stick. Most sticks of butter have the measurements right on there. You could always eyeball it if yours doesn’t.
Next, grab a medium to large saucepan and throw the butter in there.
Turn the heat to low for this part of the Rice Krispie Treat recipe.
Then, grab your jet puffed mini marshmallows and a large bowl. As you can see in the picture, I didn’t use a large bowl. That was a mistake, I definitely needed a large bowl.
Anyway, for this next step in the Rice Krispie Treat recipe, measure out four cups of those mini marshmallows into a larger bowl.
Once the butter is fully melted, dump the marshmallows in the pan with it. Leave the heat on low and stir occasionally to move everything around.
Stir those around and try not to get too much of them stuck to the spoon.
Then, grab the Rice Krispies.
I bought some cinnamon sugar flavored ones for this Rice Krispie Treat recipe because they were a little cheaper (maybe on clearance) and they sounded pretty good. Everybody who tasted these agreed it was the right call.
Anyways, once you grab a box of those, go and get a big bowl, too.
Measure out 6 cups of the Rice Krispies into the bowl.
Once those are in there, take a look at your saucepan on the stove. You should be starting to get something that looks like this:
I know it’s kind of tempting to start eating the marshmallow soup, but I swear the Rice Krispie bars you’ll get out of this are worth it.
Take the saucepan off the stove and pour everything from there into the bowl with your cereal.
You’ll really need to scrape some of that into the bowl to get it all in there. Once it is, then start mixing everything around with the spoon. It’s almost like kneading dough a little bit to really get the marshmallows and cereal combined.
Once you do get all of that mixed together, start to prep the baking dish and the spatula. I used some of the unsalted butter from before to get the spatula nice and slick so the Rice Krispies and marshmallow wouldn’t stick to it.
Use some cooking spray in your baking dish so it’s easy to remove the bars once they’re ready.
Then, start dumping the cereal/marshmallow mixture from the bowl into the baking dish.
Once that’s taken care of, use the spatula to start pressing the mixture into the baking dish for this part of the Rice Krispie Treat Recipe.
Once everything looks like the picture above, set it somewhere safe to cool. I had to make sure it was out of reach of my dog, so I set it on top of the coffee maker. Once it’s done, cut it up into about 12 bars.
The bars from this Rice Krispie Treat recipe will be good for a few days.

6 cups of Kellogg's Rice Krispies Cereal (any works, I used cinnamon since it was the cheapest)
4 cups of Jet-Puffed mini marshmallows
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
Directions
- Melt 3 tablespoons of butter on low in a large saucepan.
- Once melted, dump 4 cups of Jet-Puffed mini marshmallows in the pan with the butter and let those start to melt, stirring occasionally.
- Fill a large mixing bowl with 6 cups of Rice Krispies and pour the butter/marshmallow mix in once fully melted. Mixing everything together really well for a minute or so.
- Grease a spatula and your 13 x 9 x 2 baking dish and start shoveling the cereal/marshmallow mix in there. Press it out with the spatula so the whole dish gets filled. Let it cool for 10-20 minutes and then cut 12 squares with a butter knife.
